Asaf Kolerstein

Born in Tel-Aviv, Israel.  B.A. in Mathematics from the University of California at Berkeley.  Winner of the Eisner Prize and a Hertz Fellowship.  M.M. in cello performance from Boston University.  Artist Diploma in cello performance from the Longy School of Music in Cambridge, MA.

Principal cello teachers include Gilda Barston and George Neikrug.  Masterclasses with Yo-Yo Ma, Janos Starker, Anner Bylsma, Leslie Parnas, Atar Arad, Stephen Geber, Ann Williams, Christopher Atkins, and Jules Eskin.

An experienced chamber and orchestral player, past professional engagements include the Capitol Chamber Artists in Albany, Portland Symphony Orchestra, Springfield Symphony Orchestra, ALEA III in Boston, Berkeley Contemporary Chamber Players, and principal cello for Deep Purple in Mexico.

Mr. Kolerstein is a frequent participant in U.S. and international festivals.  Recent engagements in Mexico include the Cervantino Festival in Guanajuato, the Zacatcas Baroque Festival, and the Agave Cutural Festival in Tequila. Past fellowships include the Kent/Blossom Music Festival, Shirah International Symphony Orchestra in Jerusalem, Weathersfield Music Festival, National Repertory Orchestra, and the National Orchestral Institute.

Currently, Mr. Kolerstein is principal cellist of the State Orchestra of Mexico, performs frequently as a chamber music and recital artist, and plays as soloist with orchestras all over Mexico.
